About the Artwork:

Once a thriving & sophisticated Roman city, Pompeii was buried under meters of ash and pumice after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. When imagining the violent & vivid colors that would be present not only in a volcanic eruption but overwhelming & devastating an entire city, to the point of blanketing it with lava, the colors within this piece are precisely where our minds went. A historical site today, Pompeii truly represents perseverance. Incredibly & to the surprise of many historians, so much remained in tact in spite of nature testing its limits in every way. Because there were several parallels we couldn’t help but connect with over this past year, some more obscure but many of which were obvious, specifically in how nature, at some point in our lives, will never fail to test us all. So, in the end, it’s not a matter of who was built stronger, as we all have what it takes to persevere, but who chooses to draw upon the strength we were all born with to do so as, simply put, it is just that, a choice.
